About BELLA

The Trio

BELLA, based in San Francisco was created in 2008 to reinterpret the classical piano trio in the new millenium.  Our live performances break out of the standard concert hall - you'll find us in a private home for an intimate salon, playing in a gallery downtown, or a neighborhood club.  While we embrace the classics, the discovery and championing of new music which finds our hearts is also at the core of our mission.  We passionately acknowledge that we live in a world where artistic boundaries have blurred and we welcome collaborations across media and disciplines to create rich experiences to engage mainstream audiences.

The Salon Concept

The concept of House Concerts, or Salons, derives from traditional classical “chamber music” which was historically sponsored by fancy people and composed for performances in plush private residences and other intimate settings for devoted audiences. BELLA has modernized this concept to embrace all audiences of all backgrounds, in a variety of spaces, formal and informal, while maintaining the communal enjoyment of music as a vehicle to bring people together, visiting old and forming new connections.  BELLA also enjoys making the music accessible with brief descriptions of the music they play - historical perspectives, notes about the composers and what brings the music alive for the performers and hopefully, for the listeners.  BELLA is excited to continue their own Salon Series which has included collaborations with the Harvard Club, Harvardwood, the University Club, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and private sponsors, hosts and other artists in SF and LA.  We also look forward to projects with partnerships in Boston and New York in the upcoming seasons.

New Works and Cross-Media Collaborations

Our group serves as a jumping off point for bringing people and ideas devoted to the performing arts together. In our repertoire, we aim to explore and present music from the classical and contemporary repertoires, including living composers.  Future projects include new media integration and crossover collaboration with visual and media artists, fashion designers, dancers, and other musicians.
